Michael Waltrip Survives LeMans Test Day

Easter Sunday, test day, at the Circuit de la Sarthe: it was the day Michael Waltrip (USA) and Rob Kauffman (USA) had been waiting for. The day they got to drive the Ferrari F430 of the AF Corse team on the famous 13,629 km long circuit of the 24 hours of Le Mans.

On the Friday just after they arrived from a test at Magny Cours, they pedaled bicicles to get to know the circuit for the first time. Before that they just had to make do with watching videos. Now it was time for the real stuff.

Michael and Rob’s teammate Rui Águas (Portugal) started the morning session in the number 71 car. He did the 10 laps required to do as a Le Mans rookie, setting his fastest time at 4m.09s.351.

The second person in the car to do his required 10 laps was Rob Kauffman. Rob had to wait a little as it started to rain and as usual, not over the full length of the circuit. The team decided to wait for the circuit to dry before sending Rob out.
